Love Is Practical
Just as James reminds us that faith without works (action) is dead, so John tells us love without action is just as worthless. He gives us two hugely different examples: Christ laying down his life for us, and simply giving what we have to someone in need. In both cases, the love is expressed not in a few pious words or emotional passion, but in meeting tangible felt-needs.
Prayer: Father God, help me to love today as you have loved me. Show me opportunities to share your blessings and open doors for me to aid and assist others. Don’t let me pass up chances to demonstrate your love for people created in your image. Forgive me for the times I’ve missed those opportunities in the past. I ask these things in Jesus’ name, Amen.
