Shift and Say Yes to Your Next

DAY 5 OF 5

Moving On

When life goes dark and you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, it is easy to give up, roll over, and cease to function. Yet life continues around us. As winter gives way and yields to the brilliance of spring, so must our mourning over things that have been lost, relationships that have imploded, dreams that have dissipated, or long-held positions and even social stature that we no longer command. Whatever it is that you have held dear that is now gone, take the time to grieve—but don’t get stuck there.

Focus on the truth. Focus on the options. Focus on having gratitude. Focus on new beginnings. Your feelings must follow your posture and decisions. Do not let them run amuck like a wayward child. Your decision to live whole and healthy is the adult that the child, your emotions, must obey.

Whether the loss you’ve suffered is a person or the death of a dream, business, career, or way of life, the same rules apply. It’s never over. There is always a next. It’s closer than you think, just beyond your despair. Hope and the faith that you can begin again are the first steps to the new life that awaits. Remember that life is an option filled with endless possibilities. So choose to keep living!

When life blindsides you with loss, whether it is expected or not, you must renew your vision and decide to begin again. Review your options for starting over and choose your path. What you anticipate will relegate how you move forward. You are more powerful than you know. The instinct to live even when you feel like dying is in your DNA. So take a deep breath and decide to defy your emotions. Command them to line up with your decision to not just survive, but to thrive, to come back better and stronger than before. Like the cedars of Lebanon, those trees known for their strength, let your breaking be your making.

Let’s Talk About It:

What do you need to release?

What do you see ahead?

Write a faith confession.

Prayer:

Dear heavenly Father, I confess I tend to hold on to things long after I should have let go. I have a hard time getting over the setbacks in my life. Today I choose to forgive and let go. I choose to embrace the season that You offer and believe in greater things to come. I know You already saw what happened and prepared a solution. I am listening and will obey. Thank You for helping me through this difficult place. Thank You for the comfort that You offer. In the name of Christ Jesus. Amen.

Day 4

About this Plan

Shift and Say Yes to Your Next

We all face unexpected changes in life that may fill us with dread rather than delight. But Michelle McKinney Hammond suggests that it’s possible to shift your point of view and regard any change as a chance, an opportunity for something better. “Whether you are ready or not, shift happens,” she says. “It’s not the end. There’s always a next!”
