Tamar

Tamar’s story is one of those lesser known stories. It intercepts the more famous story of Joseph, almost as a bit of a side story. But there is nothing insignificant about her life. She is another unlikely woman that God chose to impact history and to be in the genealogy of Jesus.

Tamar’s story is a tragic account of misfortune at the hands of those who should’ve been protecting her. She was misunderstood, taken advantage of and overlooked. And yet in everything working against her, God saw and was working behind the scenes in Tamar's life to bring about His glorious plan.

What’s inspiring about this woman’s story is that despite everything working against Tamar, she didn’t lose hope and she was willing to fight for what was rightfully hers.

Tamar’s story is an encouragement to those of you who have been hurt or disadvantaged by no fault of your own. Her story can minister to those who are hurting and have suffered great loss because of the decisions of others.

I believe God’s encouragement to you today is don’t give up hope, and be ready to stand up for all that should be rightfully yours in Christ Jesus.

Tamar was unconventional, she was courageous, she was patient, she took advantage of opportunities, and she never lost hope and never stopped fighting for what should’ve been hers.

For Tamar, she was fighting for the promise of a child that she rightfully deserved and that she missed out on because of someone else’s choices. For you, maybe you’ve lost your joy, maybe because of someone else’s decisions you’ve been left feeling purposeless or like you’ve missed out on blessings that should’ve been yours in a season of your life.

We can learn something from her life. Like Tamar, let’s never give up fighting for the promises that God says are ours through Christ Jesus. Go back to His Word, find those promises, and fight in prayer for any area that you have lost out on.

And like Tamar, take heart that God sees.

He sees your pain, He sees the hurt, He knows what you went through and in Him nothing is ever hopeless. He is able to bring healing and restoration, to restore back to you everything that you feel has been lost, and more - turning all things around for His glory.
