I Am He (S1-E8)

DAY 4 OF 4

Q&A Session

Jesus is on the road with His disciples. Regularly then, something happens that the disciples cannot place. Something that is way out of their comfort zone.

Today it's about Jesus wanting to go through Samaria, and the disciples don't like that at all. Logical, because Jews and Samaritans are..., like 'water and fire' so to speak. And so a Q&A session of sorts ensues. And that's not the first time.

The question arises, do they continue to have this discussion every time an unexpected situation rises, or do they trust Jesus, their Master?

A quick bridge to yourself.

How do you see the word of God? Or in other words, the 'words' - commands - instructions - of Jesus? Do you, like the disciples, tend to initiate a Q&A session every time something is 'foreign' to you, or do you trust Jesus? Do you listen to Him? Do you do what He says - without discussion?

Don't get me wrong, I think you are allowed to come to Jesus with all your questions. You may have a conversation with Him. You may bring your doubts and uncertainties to Him. But at the same time, I also believe in an attitude of: "You are the Master and I do - no matter what - what You want. I obey."

In today's Bible verse, we find direction when it comes to the Bible. It is written for instruction, to help persevere, to find consolation.

Above all, the Bible, the word of God, is just that: the Word of God addressed to us. Not His 'A' to our 'Q' session. It is important to keep that in mind.

Another thing about the Word of God. In John, we read, "In the beginning was the Word". The Word is described in those verses as a person - the person of Jesus.

The Word of God is "living and powerful". The Word of God is a Person. In Jesus, we have the revelation of God and of His word in "the flesh".

Take a moment to be still to let this sink in on you.

Take the following questions to think about:

  • How do you deal with the "Word of God"?
  • Do you experience the power of the Word of God in your life? How does it work?
  • Do you spend enough time in the Word of God?

Prayer:

"Lord, You are the living Word. You have shown perfectly who God is. Thank You for that. Thank You for the Bible, for Your Word. Thank You that it allows me to see more and more of who You are. Lord, help me to read faithfully in Your Word, to have time with You - the living Word - and to become more and more like You. Amen."

P.S. This is the last day of this reading plan. We hope it has helped you as a follower of Jesus and that you have enjoyed it.

The materials in this reading plan come from Alongsiders, an European discipleship movement and Jesus.net.

Of course, there is much more to discover! Do you want to take the next step? Do you have a heart for discipleship and do you want to know more about how to follow Jesus together with others? Visit our website.
