Heal Yourself: Partner With God to Heal Your Hurt

DAY 1 OF 5

‘Fess Up

I was in the fetal position in my living room in a puddle of tears. I had been crying for an hour. My heart ached deeply. I was in a panic. I was broken. I was paralyzed. I was afraid. Yet, there I was at the throne of God, crying for mercy.

My life was in shambles–despite my Christian faith. I believed in God. I went to church regularly and lived out my faith daily. You know the commands: "Love God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength." The golden rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself." I faithfully kept these commands. Yet, along the way, I became broken. I married a believer, yet within a few years, the bottom fell out of our marriage. I prayed, I fasted, and I pled with God to fix it. The verbal and emotional abuse and maltreatment that I experienced broke my spirit. My heart and dreams were shattered.

Maybe you are hurting right now, as I was then. Maybe you are questioning your faith because of your unfortunate circumstances. I want to encourage you. Our Christian faith does not make us exempt from life’s unfortunate events. However, our faith sustains us during turbulent times. Today’s scriptures denote the need to ‘fess up. In order to begin to heal yourself you must confess–acknowledge your hurt. Take your brokenness to God, our Father. Psalm 34:18 assures us that our brokenness moves God to action. David declares that God is near those who have a broken heart and He saves those who express sincere remorse for their actions. In 1 John 1:9, John admonishes us to confess our sin to God and promises that God will forgive. This means acknowledging and confessing the truth, and if we have sinned, confessing our errors. God is present to partner with us so that we can begin to heal our hurt.

Heavenly Father, I am broken, and I am hurting. You said you are near me. Help me to partner with you so I can begin to heal my hurt.

What would my life look like, if I laid my brokenness at the Master’s feet once and for all? Do I believe that He is near me, even in my pain? Do I believe that my partnership with God will bring healing to my hurt?

Those who are most broken are best mended in the Master’s hand.
