DAY 6 OF 7

Regaining Time

I am praying that you are experiencing God’s miracles right now. Thank you for being on this journey with me as we discover the miracle of God’s timing and pace.

Have you ever considered the beauty of time? Think for a moment about a conversation with a friend that went on for hours, and it was so effortless that you lost track of time because of the sheer enjoyment you were experiencing. Ponder for a moment a long, lazy summer afternoon when you permitted yourself to just be, with no agenda or distractions. In moments like these, the gift of time is precious and powerful.

As I made a conscious effort to slow down the pace of my driving, I began to reclaim the gift of time. I used to think that I was saving time by getting everywhere fast. Here was the error of my thinking and a profound lesson: the rate at which I was living life was destroying the work of God in me. I was living life so fast that I was missing out on so much that God had for me.

I hope that you will learn this miraculous lesson with me. Time is a gift, and God wants you to live the miracle of every single moment.

King David acknowledged the gift of time in Psalm 39, where he wrote:

“Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is. You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure.” (Psalm 39:4-5, NIV)

Every moment in your life is a gift! Make every moment count as a miraculous gift from Jesus! The Apostle Paul put it this way in Ephesians 5, where he said, “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” (Ephesians 5: 15-17, NIV)

I love some other translations that use the words “Redeeming the time.” Every gift of time can be redeemed for God’s glory!

When I was always in a rush, I was misusing the gift of time. As I have learned the wisdom of slowing down, I realize that taking an extra five minutes to get somewhere is not a loss; it’s a gain! Especially when I arrive with my spirit and soul intact!

Do you need to confess your misuse of God’s gift of time? Do you remember the feeling you had when you recalled a moment where you lost track of time because of the joy you were experiencing at that moment? This can be your daily experience if you allow God to direct your time. After all, it’s all His, to begin with!

Hurry and love don’t co-exist. You have to choose one or the other. Love is a miracle, and hurry is a waste of God’s gift of time. Don’t give up those precious moments of connection and conversation with the people you love OR with God! Purpose in your heart today to slow down enough to embrace a moment and embrace love. You will never regret that decision.

Let’s pray. Jesus, I admit that I have neglected your gift of time by doing life too quickly. Slow me down. And slow down, my friend. Teach us together how to gain back time by living our lives in step with your rhythm and pace.

You are a miracle!

Your Friend,

Grant
