Dig In

DAY 5 OF 6

Am I Doing This Right?

You’re on your fifth day of this Bible Plan. That’s amazing! You’re really sticking with this and digging in for more. Give yourself a high five right now!

As you dig in, you might find yourself getting frustrated. Disciples live to be more like Jesus and that’s a hard thing to do. You want to love everyone … and then someone is mean to you. You practice patience … only to turn around and make a rushed mistake. You follow God’s way … and it makes you unpopular.

Are you failing because you aren’t trying hard enough? Should you throw up your hands and try something else? Why should you dedicate your life to being a student of Jesus when it seems impossible to do it right?

Okay, take a breath. Watch this video, then come back to finish this day strong!

Feeling better after watching that?

Discipleship isn’t about getting it right every time. It’s a lifetime of learning. And learning how to be dedicated to both grace and truth leads to freedom like nothing else. It’s freeing because you learn you’ll always need God’s grace, and you can always grow in God’s truth.

Jesus compared following Him to being led by a gentle leader. In Matthew 11, He compared Himself to an everyday person the people He was talking to would clearly understand: a farmer. And, He compared people to the animals who would pull the plows farmers used to plant their crops.

A harsh farmer might overwork his animals, placing a heavy bar—called a yoke—across their neck.

But in the verses you’ll read from Matthew 11 today, you’ll see that Jesus said following Him is like finding rest for your soul.

Dedicate your effort to growing closer to Jesus, our humble and gentle leader. When you mess up, ask for His forgiveness. Living like Jesus is a lifelong journey, full of new truth—and fresh grace every day.

Pray: God, thank You that there’s nothing I can do to make You love me more, and there’s nothing I can do that would make You love me less. Your truth teaches me that Your grace is enough for me. Thank You for leading me gently and without shaming me for my mistakes. Help me to walk with You in grace and truth today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
