The Security Of Faith

No matter how carefully we examine our favorite surf-forecast, the ocean is unpredictable and does as it wishes. It can be a place of thrilling adventure or unnerving uncertainty.

In Luke 8, we discover Jesus encouraging His disciples to have faith in His faithfulness, even when they felt overwhelmed by an unexpected storm.

As a furious storm swept over the lake, Jesus and His disciples, some of whom were experienced fishermen(!) found themselves in a distressed boat. The disciples were filled with fear for their lives, while Jesus peacefully slept. Startled by the storm, the disciples woke Jesus, urgently pleading for His intervention. In response, He rose and rebuked the raging wind and waves.

Miraculously, the storm subsided and a serenity settled over the waters.

Jesus then directed His attention to His disciples, posing a challenging question: “Where is your faith?” Despite walking alongside Jesus and witnessing His extraordinary power and miracles, the disciples needed to be reminded of His power yet again.

This experience in the storm held a crucial lesson for the disciples to grasp – and it’s crucial for you and me, too.

Life’s storms have the power to test our faith, leaving us in a state of vulnerability. The trials, hardships, and uncertainties that we encounter can easily overwhelm us. However, even as the relentless waves of adversity crash upon us, we are invited to anchor our faith in God, fully aware that He remains by our side through every circumstance.

He is our strength and our safe harbour. In His presence, you can find true security.

In life’s storms, may we remember that when confronted with challenges, our faith should not rely on our own abilities, but on the One who possesses ultimate power and authority – the One who commands the wind and the waves, and who governs our lives.

By humbly surrendering ourselves to Him, we can navigate life’s trials with unwavering faith, fully assured that God will lead, protect, and safely guide us along.

Take a moment to contemplate your life. Is it calm and steady or are you facing storms? God asks you to place your trust in His unyielding faithfulness. He will be with you in all circumstances no matter how difficult. Embrace the assurance that He is always by your side, providing guidance, strength, and peace.

Pray:

Heavenly Father, as I navigate through life with its seasons of tranquility and storms, I wholeheartedly place my faith in Your steadfast faithfulness. Help me anchor my faith in You, knowing that You give me strength in every circumstance. May my life be a testimony to Your faithfulness and the peace that comes from trusting in You.
