Real Hope: JOYSample
Our Greatest Joy
There are many things that bring us happiness. As part of God’s creation, we get to experience things that make us happy like nature, beaches, beautiful smelling flowers, soothing music, friendships and family, and great tasting food. As wonderful as they are, these experiences are temporary.
I remember my first-time visiting New York City. I was filled with excitement and so happy to be soaking in all the creativity and the city lights. I thought to myself - if this is how I’m feeling in this moment, how much more wonderful would it be with Jesus?
But how can we experience joy that’s unseen and eternal?
Again, this verse reminds us that we can experience joy beyond our senses – “Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.”
When we enjoy small moments (having a cup of coffee, hearing a kind word from a stranger, connecting with a friend, enjoying the sun on our face or the rain that nourishes the plants) with a heart of gratitude, these moments magnify our praise to God. These glimpses of happiness can be moments that point us to the unseen and eternal joy of Jesus.
Carved in our human history is the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus – God’s promise of our greatest joy in Him.

About this Plan
“Joy is the settled assurance that God is in control of all the details of my life, the quiet confidence that ultimately everything is going to be alright, and the determined choice to praise God in every situation.” (Rick Warren) As you read these devotions, may you be encouraged that even if things in your life aren’t lining up as you’d like, you can still experience true Joy!
