7 Days of Trusting God in Everything

DAY 6 OF 7

Pure Trust

I have spent a lot of time learning about Abraham. More specifically, about his sacrifice of Isaac. God asked Abraham to take his only son, whom he loved, and offer him as a sacrifice. Can you possibly imagine simply obeying God about this? Incredibly, the next passage states that “Abraham rose early in the morning” (Genesis 22:3) and began his journey with Isaac…to sacrifice him. That was the express purpose of this trip.

Notice any arguing with God in this Scripture passage? Complaining? Questioning? Abraham did none of those things. A couple of chapters earlier, Abraham had argued with God about the destruction of Sodom, so we know he once dared argue. But somehow, he didn’t this time. I’m simply stunned. To me, that shows how much Abraham trusted God. God had told him his offspring would be multiplied through Isaac. Maybe Abraham had a sneaking feeling God would intervene, given this earlier promise from God. Maybe he thought he’d have another son and name him Isaac, too. He had witnessed miracles, including the birth of his son in his old age. He regularly talked with God. Therefore, he did not question God’s commands. To sacrifice his only son, Abraham had unwavering faith. What would you have done?

Trust and Focus: Can you even imagine what Abraham was thinking or feeling when God asked him to sacrifice Isaac? What precious something would you give up, throwing your trust behind God and his plan for you? Can you trust God with that thing, too?
