Being Whole: 21 Days to Overcoming Relational Trauma

DAY 2 OF 21

CODEPENDENCY:

Codependency is an emotional and behavioral condition that affects an individual's ability to have a healthy, mutually satisfying relationship. It is also known as “relationship addiction” because people with codependency often form or maintain relationships that are one-sided, emotionally destructive and/or abusive. I remember all too well the journey of breaking free from codependency. Everyone I met, I attached to and thought I was in love. The relationship was a sense of security until it felt unsafe. By this time, you simply struggle to maintain a false reality of love which sends you on this massive rollercoaster of dysfunctional emotions and behaviors; but there is FREEDOM from this cycle.

Overcoming codependency as a Christian involves recognizing that one's worth and value comes from their relationship with God, not from their ability to meet the needs or expectations of others. It requires an understanding of the importance of setting healthy boundaries and practicing self-care, while also showing love and compassion towards others. Prayer, meditation on Scripture, and seeking the guidance of trusted spiritual leaders can also be valuable tools in the journey towards healing from codependency. Ultimately, as Christians, we are called to seek wholeness and freedom in Christ, and by surrendering our struggles to Him, we can find the strength and courage to break free from unhealthy patterns and live out our God-given purpose.

Questions to Ponder:

Have you ever been codependent? Are you still codependent? Take some time to examine your heart and why it gravitates towards codependency. Breathe deeply and allow the Holy Spirit to reveal the core of your relational wounds.

About this Plan

Being Whole: 21 Days to Overcoming Relational Trauma

Trauma of any kind impedes our ability to experience the wholeness found in Christ. Relational trauma, trauma resulting from an abusive or dysfunctional relationship, often fractures our perception of God, self, and others. As a licensed Christian therapist specializing in trauma, I have witnessed true healing from trauma. In this devotional you will explore, heal, and grow beyond the areas of your heart that have been fragmented by relational trauma.
