Let’s hone in on Boaz’s response to Ruth’s declaration after she uncovers his feet. “The Lord bless you, my daughter,” he replied. “This kindness is greater than that which you showed earlier: You have not run after the younger men, whether rich or poor. And now, my daughter, don’t be afraid. I will do for you all you ask. All the people of my town know that you are a woman of noble character.” (Ruth 3:10-11 NIV) Boaz knows Ruth honored her mother-in-law by following her back to Bethlehem. She continues to show her character as she risks her life to collect food and then “propose” to Boaz. He notices all of these traits and, in turn, honors her. Ruth epitomizes the Proverbs 31 woman, which is why it is included in today’s reading.

About this Plan

The story of Ruth stands as a story of redemption. Coming from tragedy and as a foreign woman, Ruth is the last person we might expect to see the goodness of God. She becomes a key figure in the story of the Bible and the great-grandmother of King David himself!
