What the Bible Has to Say About ClothingSample
Getting dressed in a new glorious body
“We do want to put on our new body, like new clothes. When that happens, we will no longer need our old body which had to die. Instead, we will have a new body that will live forever.” (2 Corinthians 5:4 in the Easy English Bible)
Wearing new clothes sometimes makes you feel like "new" yourself. This starts with small children who can be overly proud of a new dress or sweater. Conversely, old clothes can make you feel out of place at a party.
Paul compares our body to old clothes. It is weak and mortal. That does not fit with God’s perfection. Our bodies that are affected by sin would be out of place at God’s great feast.
When believers die, they go to live with the Lord God in heaven. But their bodies remain on earth and decay to dust. Paul compares that to old clothes left behind. Yet a life without a body is not perfect either. We were created as bodily beings. Being just spirits, we would feel “without clothes and ashamed." Therefore, God gives everyone who belongs to Him a new body, perfect and immortal, fit for an eternal life in God’s glorious presence. Then nothing will remind us of the sin and brokenness of this earth. There will be no more scars. No disabilities. No diseases. No imperfections at all.
Do you long to “put on” a new body? What does it take to do that?
About this Plan
You will not find clothing style advice in the Bible. Nor will you find the latest fashions. Yet God's Word has a lot to say about clothing: why we wear clothes at all, how we should dress, and how God offers us beautiful, spotless clothing to cover our sins. Will you read with us?
