The Real Reason You & Your Spouse Can't Talk About Money With Out Fighting

DAY 3 OF 3

Having opened our hearts to understanding and honoring each other, let us now embrace the grace of God as the ultimate guide in our financial conversations.

God’s grace is boundless, right?

And it is through this grace that we can see past our differences and build a united front. Ephesians 4:2-3 teach us to be humble, gentle, patient, and to bear with one another in love.

So now let us let this grace guide our conversations. Even the hard ones. Even the ones where you feel 100% right. Even when you feel like your spouse is a little crazy.

Before you begin your next money conversation with your spouse, spend a minute to pray together and invite God into the conversation. Then actively listen, seeking to understand their perspective (without judgment) and be open to compromise. These practical steps are the tools that God has given us to build and strengthen our relationships.

As we conclude, remember this: God’s grace has the power to transform our relationships, to bring harmony in love and money. Let’s commit to embracing understanding, honor, and grace in our relationships.

Let’s pray:

Dear Heavenly Father, I acknowledge the power of words and the importance of effective communication, especially in conversations involving finances. I ask You, Lord, to be the center of my interactions. Let my words reflect Your love, and may my ears be open to truly listening. Grant me the wisdom to ask open-ended questions and the patience to listen without judgment. Bless my relationship with my spouse, dear Lord, and help us to create a shared vision for financial stewardship that honors You and strengthens our bonds.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you enjoyed this plan, I think you’ll love my award-winning book Simple Money, Rich Life. It’s the operating manual we (a broke, middle-class couple) followed to get full control of our money and pay off over $400k of debt together. It'll help you get on the same page with your spouse, and earn more, save more, and have more fun giving than you thought possible… all without a hint of guilt or shame.

And because my passion is to see couples unified in their finances I’d love to GIVE you a copy. All I ask is that you help me cover shipping and handling. Sound good? Get it here:
