TOGETHER & SEPARATE
Today we see how God intended families to operate. When God called Abraham to leave his country, his people, and his father’s household, Abraham chose to take his nephew, Lot, with him. In the next chapter, we see how both of them were blessed, that it became impossible for them to live together as the land was not able to support them.
God blesses each family uniquely. When we try to share or equalize our blessing with other family members, it ends up in strife. Through this passage, we see that God blessed both Abraham and Lot and it is not compared. As families, we need to be humble enough to receive the blessings God gives us and not compare it with others, especially our siblings.
Parents need to be impartial and at the same time not compare the blessings of their children, one over the other.
Another lesson we learn is just because we are blessed differently doesn't mean we don’t help each other in times of trouble. Here we see Abraham rescuing Lot; the important thing is after the rescue they go their separate ways. In today's world, just because one party helps the other, they kind of rule over the weaker party. I’m sure God is not pleased with this and justice will come.
We need to learn to live as independent families and at the same time help each other as an extended family. We need to consciously keep jealousy and strife from our lives. There needs to be love and peace flowing through families.
