Beneath the SurfaceSample
Do you ever think about what you'll be doing in the future? For some of us, it can be difficult to think about a time far ahead of what we're experiencing now. For others, they may already have their exact career path mapped out and ready to go. Yet, no matter how prepared you may or may not feel, all of us are learning to discover our purpose. Thankfully, before Jesus left his disciples, he gave them pretty clear instructions about their purpose.
In today's reading, you'll take a look at what Jesus said to his disciples to help them stay anchored in their identity and purpose. These words are known as the Great Commission, and in them, Jesus gave his disciples new instructions and he reminded them they'll never be alone. He said he would always be with them, no matter what.
From this story, we learn how Jesus helps us to discover our purpose. The disciples spent so much time with Jesus, and they learned a lot from him — especially about their faith. Jesus sent them out into the world, and he promised to be the connecting piece reminding them of their purpose.
When we're looking for purpose in the world, the best place for us to start is with Jesus. When we spend time with Jesus, release old ways of living, and share God's story with others, we find purpose just like the disciples did. We can run to Jesus to understand our identity because Jesus helps us discover our purpose.

About this Plan
Who do you think you are? You might define your identity around your skills, abilities, and giftings. Those are great ways to start our journey, but they don’t quite reach the center. In the same way, an oceanographer heads into the depths to reveal the ocean's mysteries, we’ll need to prepare to dive deep to discover who we are and who we are becoming.
