OUTCRY: God’s Heart For Your ChurchSample
Unity
I think many times we imagine unity being built on a foundation of agreement. That kind of “unity” can’t happen until we all see the world in the same way. Until we carry all of the same social, political or theological convictions.
Our natural instinct is to dive into the details and find our differences. But God sees us as more than our theological, political, or philosophical stances.
Just as an artist who steps back from his painting to get a wider perspective of his work, we need to take a step back to clearly see the spirit of unity that God is pouring out on his people. Today. Right now.
I see it increasing all around the world. In every city I step into.
The unity that God is pouring out is not found in a common set of theological points. It isn’t that we all care about the same issues. God doesn't call us to be the same, he calls us to unite around Jesus. Loving one another not simply in spite of our differences but because of our differences. God is not calling us to sameness but to unity.
In the book of John, Jesus doesn’t simply pray for the disciples. He also prays for all of those who will come after them. He prays for us. You and I right now. And his prayer is that we would be “one” in the same way that he and the Father are one.
Prayer: Jesus, we pray that your Church would increase in unity. You are calling us to be united. Help me to know what small step I can take toward unity today. Amen.
About this Plan
Looking for the next big thing? Look no further than your church! God has placed you in the greatest movement in history even on the days it doesn't feel like it. The church is imperfect. But something beautiful happens when we commit to what’s in front of us and catch God’s heart for his Bride! The next big thing is here. It’s always been here. It’s the local church.
