Daily Bible Reading Guide, June 2023 - "God’s Saving Word: Spiritual Renewal"Sample
June 8
Introduction
Today’s reading begins with Paul explaining why he did not wish to visit the Corinthians but chose to write to them instead. He then addresses the issue of someone who had caused Paul and the Corinthian faith community offense, and he encourages the Corinthians to forgive that person. He also describes his visit to Troas, a major seaport city located in the northwest corner of Asia Minor. The chapter concludes with Paul affirming the victory that believers experience through Christ.
Scripture Reading
2 Corinthians 2:1-17
Today’s Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 2:15
For we are like a sweet-smelling incense offered by Christ to God, which spreads among those who are being saved and those who are being lost.
Reflect
What advice does Paul give the Corinthians concerning forgiveness (verses 7, 8)? Have you ever experienced a situation in which one person caused distress to other members of a group? If so, how did the group respond? How did you feel in that situation? When Paul arrived in Troas, what brought him joy? What was the cause of his concern? What is the victory Paul speaks of (verse 14)? Reread verses 14-16. In what ways can you be like “sweet-smelling incense” to others?
Pray
God of mercy and forgiveness, at times it can be hard to forgive those who intentionally hurt me. Forgive me for the times when I have failed to forgive others. Teach me to be like a sweet fragrance, spreading the knowledge about Christ everywhere and to be like “sweet-smelling incense” giving glory and honor to you. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
2 Corinthians 3:1-18 : The Spirit of the Lord gives life.
