Hearing from the Holy Spirit

Have you ever felt something deep down inside? Like a tugging or a pulling taking you in a different direction? Or maybe you’ve sensed something isn’t going right in your relationship, even though everyone around you says you make the perfect couple. We often ignore those feelings, especially when they conflict with our desires and intentions. But the things we sense could be the Lord wanting to talk with us.

Because the God of the universe, the one who created us, wants to have conversations with the works of his hands.

Our thoughts are connected to the Spirit, who connects to our minds. That’s because there are intangible parts of ourselves intertwined and working with God’s Spirit.

The fact is, we communicate with God spiritually, with our minds and our hearts. Since God is a spirit and we are a soul, there is a deep and intangible language—a connection—which is understood. As a result, it’s up to each of us to invest in that part of ourselves so we see the signals clearly and can interpret the messages God sends. And making sure we have a clear communication path both ways is essential.

How do we create that clear path so we hear what God is sending?

How can we know that the vibe we are getting is the Holy Spirit—God’s voice—and not just something we put together in our minds?

Thanks to social media, voices, sounds, advice, and challenges are coming at us 24/7. On top of all those other sounds crowding in, we also can be filled with shame, reminders of past accusations, and deep wounds that never fully healed. Or even a mindset we can’t let go of. I remember seeing a quote on social media I could relate to. I thought it was the Lord confirming what I was thinking. However, the Lord corrected me and said, “Nah, you’re in your feelings.” Trying to sift through the blur of everyday life—our internal voice, our thoughts, and the advice of well-meaning loved ones, friends, and others—makes interpreting the good, bad, and sometimes ugly comments difficult and often frustrating. Hearing and even dealing with the messages of the Holy Spirit God sends as our guide can sometimes feel impossible or even overwhelming.

Especially since the human mind cannot understand everything about God and his mysteries, which includes exactly how the Holy Spirit operates in our lives. There are biblical concepts we won’t comprehend until we see the Father face to face. However, there are some truths that God has revealed to us that provide clear guidance, primarily through his Word, which we can rely on.
