Trusting God During the StrugglesSample
At the pinnacle of the story of Joseph we see him as second in command over Egypt, facing his siblings who have come to Egypt in search of food during a famine.
God has used all the twists and turns of Joseph’s life to not only physically position him in a place to save Israel from famine, but to spiritually prepare him to handle the responsibility God was going to place on Him.
At that moment, with his brothers bowing down and in remorse, Joseph knew that God had worked all things out for his good.
But what about before that moment?
What about when his brothers beat him and sold him into slavery?
What about when he was accused of attempted rape and thrown into jail?
What about all the hardships?
We are told throughout this story that God was with Joseph. From the pit, to the prison, to the palace.
And in every situation, we do not hear murmuring from Joseph, but we see a willingness to work hard. Like he KNEW God was with him. That he could trust that things weren’t happening TO him, but FOR him.
How often do we look at our challenges through the lens of a victim - ”Why is this happening TO me? Why don’t things ever go my way?”
This type of mindset and spiritual posture do not allow us to see - and partner with - the Holy Spirit as he refines us in the hard times, so that we are prepared to lead in the place He will put us.
Is it really happening to you?
Or is it happening for you? So God can turn it - and you -into something good?
Reflection Questions:
- When something bad happens do you think first “why me” or “how can I learn and grow from this”?
- What is a challenge that you’re facing right now that you can SHOW UP for and work as if unto the Lord in?
- How does knowing that God will be with you encourage you to face struggles with joy instead of despair??
