God has freely forgiven us.
Jesus was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our guilt and chastisement, and the punishment that was needful for us to obtain peace and well-being fell on Him. By Jesus' stripes, we were healed and made whole.
The following is Hebrews 9:22, taken from the Amplified Classic version.
[In fact] under the Law almost everything is purified by means of blood, and without the shedding of blood there is neither release from sin and its guilt nor the remission of the due and merited punishment for sins.
He releases us from the sin and once the sin is gone, we don't have to keep thinking about it and repenting over and over. If we've truly repented, that sin is gone. There is a release from the guilt. We're free from the punishment that we deserve because Christ has already taken it.
Joel 2:25 God says He will even return the years the cankerworm has eaten.
God has freely forgiven us all of our transgressions.
Colossians 2:13-14 AMP When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh (worldliness, manner of life), God made you alive together with Christ, having [freely] forgiven us all our sins, having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of legal demands [which were in force] against us and which were hostile to us. And this certificate He has set aside and completely removed by nailing it to the cross.
Let's look at the same scripture in the New Living Translation: You were dead because of your sins and because of your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for He forgave all our sin. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.
What good, good news!
No one can ever imagine the horrible death that Jesus paid on the cross. But when He took that punishment for us, the debt was canceled because it had been paid. He took our punishment and blotted out the handwriting of the note. He puts our sin and guilt and consequences in the depths of the sea. Maybe we should stop and fall on our faces and say, "God, this is so wonderful. Thank You!"
In Psalm 103, we see the sin as far as the East is from the West. Micah 7:19 tells us He puts our sin and guilt in the depths of the sea. He redeemed our lives from the pit! He satisfied us with good things. These promises are ours by faith. All we have to do is repent. We can take these promises and choose to believe them and walk in them. Let's spend time thanking God.
God, I thank You that You've pardoned all my sins. When I have repented, you've taken my sins and my iniquities and the consequences. I thank You, Lord, that I have Your lovingkindness and Your compassion. I am filled with joy over the fact that the blood of Jesus has set me free! This is a gift that my mind can hardly conceive, one that I choose to receive by faith!
