Use Your Gift
Did you know it’s possible to give too much attention to your spiritual gift? The Apostle Paul, the author of much of the New Testament, makes sure we pivot from spiritual gifts into what he calls “the way of life that is best of all” - the way of love.
Paul says that loving someone is better than having the most respected role in the church. You could give everything you have to the poor, but you don't gain anything if you don’t love others. Because sometimes, when it comes to our gifts, we can be more boastful than we can be loving.
So to help, Paul describes what love looks like. This “Love Chapter” is a section of scripture you may have heard many times (especially at a wedding), but 1 Corinthians 13 is found within the context of Spiritual Gifts. It is possible to understand our gift, develop our gift, and even use it for good but not love others with it.
We must have the mind and heart of Christ to be the hands and feet of Christ.
*As you read 1 Corinthians 13, substitute your name whenever you see the word “love.” Does it describe you? Regardless of how gifted or talented you are, you must not forget the best way of life – loving others.
