Just Don't Give Up! - Part 5: My Battle, His BattleSample
Steps Of Victory
“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” – Psalm 23:5
Psalm 23 was beautifully written by David. The word "shepherd" was mentioned many times in the Old Testament as a metaphor used by the Israelites to picture kings who ruled the people with great love and care. When David illustrated God as the Shepherd, he described himself as a sheep and God as his King.
God is not just a traditional shepherd; He is our King. The "rod" mentioned in verse 4 is His scepter, and the "staff" is His Spirit who dwells in us! And the "table" in verse 5 is actually the king's feast prepared for us, His sheep, even before we went into battle. We do not fight our battles for victory; we fight our battles from God's victory.
When I was diagnosed with cancer, my family and I struggled, not knowing what to do or where to go. There were many other questions, and finances were one of the things we were worried about. I consulted my oncologist to understand the costs I needed to prepare for my entire medical treatment. The number was breathtaking.
I had purchased my health insurance not long before my cancer was discovered. I was aware that I needed to wait for a minimum period of time before I could make any claims to the insurance company. I quickly looked at the policy and the date I signed it for my health insurance policy. I passed. I knew God was with me when I signed up for the health insurance six months ago.
Through my journey, I really got to learn to take one step at a time and surrender the next steps to God. It was a hard-learned lesson, but God revealed to me that He had already prepared my victory before the battle began, and He wanted me to walk as a victorious man whom He had anointed.
Day by day, I saw His victory. When I trusted Him, He opened the door and brought me through. I trusted Him with another step to take, and I won again. There were many days of adversity, but I held on to the promise that He who brought me through yesterday would bring me through tomorrow. When I believed in my heart that victory was already mine, I received my victory.
Today, God is revealing the same promise to you too. He wants you to trust Him and let Him give you the victory you need. You may be in the midst of adversity for some time, but God will give you the victory you need. He gives you strength. He overflows you with His love. He never fails. My friend, receive your victory today.
Every season will end in victory.
