Set Apart

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” – 1 Peter 2:9

After being discharged from the hospital, I had to wait for a couple more days before receiving my biopsy results. That night, as I was about to sleep, God reminded me that I had been set apart under His good plan and that He would use this situation to prepare me for a greater purpose. I didn’t understand it, and it was hard to accept, but I held on to His promise. As time went by, God slowly revealed His wonderful works in my life.

If we study the Old Testament, we can see that God had chosen the tribe of Levi to serve in the tabernacle of Moses. From all the Levites, Aaron and his offspring were chosen to take on the role of the priesthood. And from Aaron’s offspring, only one man could hold the role of the high priest. The high priest was allowed to enter the Holy of Holies once a year during Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement). The tribe of Levi was set apart to serve God and fulfill His specific purpose.

We, who are in Christ Jesus, are also chosen people. As children of God, we have been set apart to be royal priests. Let us ponder this for a few seconds… In the past, the priesthood was only meant for the descendants of Aaron’s family. However, it has now been given to all of us. What an amazing privilege we have! Jesus is our High Priest, and we get to take part in His royal kingdom.

God has set us apart to declare His praises – His wonderful deeds, virtues, and perfections. We get to witness His excellence in our own lives. And many times, God allows difficult times so that we can experience His miraculous works and testify to the good news to many others, giving them comfort and hope.

When you are in the midst of troubles, know that God is preparing you to be His messenger to many others, to declare His glory.

God has set you apart for a greater purpose. You may not understand it now, and that is okay. Do not see your troubles as sufferings without rewards. Proclaim the Word, know your identity in Christ, and trust that He will turn your sorrows into joys and your hardships into your greatest testimony! Never give up!

God has set us apart to fulfil our highest purpose in life
