Holy Week: A Journey From Jesus’ Death to ResurrectionSample

Monday: Jesus Clears the Temple
Immediately after entering the Temple, Jesus clears out the people selling animals for sacrifice and knocks over the tables of the money changers. After this, He quotes Isaiah 56:7:
“... these I will bring to my holy mountain
and give them joy in my house of prayer.
Their burnt offerings and sacrifices
will be accepted on my altar;
for my house will be called
a house of prayer for all nations.”
For extra credit, read Isaiah 56:1–8. In this passage, the Lord seems to be flinging open the doors for those who commit themselves to Him (Isaiah 56:8). Is Jesus’ clearing of the Temple an expression of what He will do at the end of the week?
Prayer: Lord, thank You for being the Lord of all nations. Reveal to me what I need to clear out of my life and the places where I am not committed to You. Holy Spirit, guide me as I study.
