Finding the Light in Trauma

DAY 1 OF 7

DAY 1

TRAUMA

I want to welcome you to the 3 Minutes A Day Series on Trauma. This week we will study Scripture alongside our topic as we allow God to speak to us and free us from the darkness of our traumatic past.

Before we begin, I want you to know YOU did NOTHING wrong! The trauma of your past does NOT define who you are! The darkness that past trauma holds over you currently CAN be OVERCOME and you can find the light for your future.

I often think words are not enough to define something and the definition of trauma is one of those things. To me, becoming deeply distressed or to experience something disturbing is not descriptive enough to understand the weight trauma can carry through a lifetime. Many who experience trauma are plagued with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which is a clinical diagnosis that can be debilitating and require extensive work to heal from.

If you have already looked up our Scripture passage for this week, you may be wondering why I did not choose the preceding verses. Not to worry; we will be addressing them today as we set the tone for our week.

Just prior to our Scripture focus this week, we learn Jesus had just performed one of the great miracles that are predominant to His ministry on earth. He had just fed five thousand with five loaves and two fish.

From five loaves and two fish, Scripture says, “They all ate and were satisfied” (Matthew 14:20).

To be honest, the title given to this portion of Scripture is a little discrediting to the miracle Jesus performed. Scripture tells us next that those who ate in number were “about five thousand men, besides women and children” (Matthew 14:21).

So, in reality the number five thousand just doubled if not tripled in size. Five thousand was the number of men, yet there were women and children present too that ate. From five loaves and two fish, Jesus fed probably closer to ten thousand or more and they didn’t just get a small, bite-sized piece of food; remember, Scripture says all were satisfied (Matthew 14:20). Now that is a miracle!

As I leave you today thinking about the miracles God is capable of in our lives, I want you to think about the trauma in your life. Please, don’t compare it with others because we all experience different things and have different emotions tied to them. No matter how small or big trauma is in your life, together through Scripture, you will overcome it!

Come back tomorrow as we start to look at our Scripture this week and recall the miracles God is capable of in our lives.
