DAY 4 OF 6

How To Make Friends

The average social media user has 338 friends. However, we all know the term “friends” is more than a little misleading. After all, it’s unlikely that when you’re in serious trouble, you’ll call that former coworker from the movie theater you worked with in high school.

Our world makes it easy to connect on a surface level, but not much deeper. We could have hundreds or thousands of “friends” online without ever bonding with any of them. Today’s guiding verse shares the secret to making genuine friendships for life.

A good friend, the kind that feels closer than family, is difficult to find because there’s work and discomfort involved. It takes work to answer someone’s emergency call in the middle of the night. Speaking uncomfortable truth to someone you care about is hard. Comforting someone in deep despair can feel completely draining. However, it’s investments like these that create the quality of friendship our hearts truly crave.

The best way to find a perfect friend is to be the kind of friend we’re looking for. If we want someone to listen to us, are we willing to listen to others? Are we willing to stand beside a friend under attack? When conflict bubbles up, are we willing to extend the olive branch first?

While life-giving friendships take work, they are well worth the effort.

Think about a friend you would like to have a deeper relationship with. What are some practical ways you can be a blessing to them this week?

As you engage with God’s Word:

● How can I be the kind of friend I want to make?

● What is God saying to me?

● How can I apply what God is teaching me?

● How can I be specific in prayer today?

About this Plan

Find Your People

Society tells us possessions, power, and position determine the quality of our lives; however, Scripture paints a different picture entirely. God has created each of us with the innate desire to know others and be known by them—we were created for relationships. Join me on this six-day journey as we learn what biblical friendship looks like and how to build these relationships.
