How to Hear God's VoiceSample
Day 4: How to Know God’s Will:
Today, we’re talking about how we can understand God’s will. One of the most important concepts to understand is that when you hear God’s voice, it will help you discern God’s will!
The following are 7 simple questions you can ask to discern God’s will for your life:
1. Will Jesus be glorified and/or exalted by this choice?
This is the “JESUS TEST” because Matthew 6:33 (author paraphrase) says, “Seek 1st the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Whenever the Holy Spirit is speaking, He will always exalt Jesus (John 16:14-15).
2. Does your decision agree with the Word of God?
The Word of God is powerful! When we use it for discernment, it can cut deeply and help us decipher which of our thoughts stem from our earthly desires and which come from the Lord.
3. Does your decision produce peace?
Colossians 3:15 (AMP) says, “And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ’s] one body you were also called [to live]. And be thankful (appreciative), [giving praise to God always].”
Let the peace of God act as the UMPIRE. His peace calls the shots.
4. Does the Holy Spirit bear witness to your decision?
The Holy Spirit has been, is, and will continue to speak! If we listen, we will hear what He has to say. We can miss divine appointments if we fail to open ourselves up to the Holy Spirit to guide us.
5. Does your decision pass the test of time?
People rush into bad decisions all the time—jobs, houses, and sadly, even marriage. But if the counsel is of the Lord, it will last forever (Psalm 33:11)
6. Will your decision pass the test of godly counsel?
The key to this question is simple: before seeking counsel, know the SPIRIT of the person from whom you are seeking counsel.
7. Have you surrendered your will to God?
As you fully surrender to God, you will begin to more clearly hear Him and be led by His Spirit (see Galatians 5:16).
On our next and final day of this plan, we will discuss the rewards that follow hearing and obeying the Lord our God.
