Couples: Kindness ChallengeSample

Challenge 2
Proverbs 15:1 (ESV): “A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”
Kindness Illustrated
In any heated situation, a soft answer and a gentle approach takes the sting out of the rage that can ensue. If you respond in the same harsh way, it will only escalate and make matters worse. Take the high road and do what Proverbs 15:1 says. In the end, you’ll diffuse a time bomb and be blessed.
Action Steps
Practice humility—a soft response when communicating with your spouse should come from your heart. It’s difficult to have an argument with a humble person. Pray before speaking, asking the Holy Spirit to give you the proper words to say. Practice patience by allowing time to listen. It’s not important to win in any conversation as communication in marriage isn’t about who’s right or wrong.
