Keep Calm and Obey
Deep in the woods, mama deer wanted to go to the market to get food for her baby, whom she adored. She told baby deer not to step out of the house. She cautioned her about the lions and tigers prowling outside. Baby deer obediently nodded her head but couldn’t stop her feet from leaving the house. A lion passing by was ecstatic on seeing baby deer hopping amidst the bushes. The lion walked stealthily before pouncing on her. He then decided to take a dip before his yummy meal, so he requested the fox to guard the baby deer for a while. In the lion’s absence, the fox was unable to resist the temptation and relished the ears of the baby deer. On his return, the lion was furious to see the ears missing. When questioned, the fox said the deer didn’t have any ears to begin with. So, the lion decided to ask baby deer’s mother. Seeing her baby in a pool of blood, mama deer burst into tears. She answered the lion, “Yes, Your Majesty, my baby didn’t have ears. Had he had ears, this wouldn’t have been his end.”
Our parents and elders are God’s representatives on earth. As teenagers, we often find our parents’ advice to be a bitter pill. But just like the doctor gives us a bitter pill to get better, so also, heeding our parents’ advice is good for us. It brings protection and covering.
The Bible commands us to honor our parents and value their instruction. In fact, this is the only commandment with a promise – a promise of a long and blessed life (Exodus 20:12). Let us not ignore it.
Prayer
Father God, help me understand that when I honor my parents, I honor You. Give me an obedient heart to heed the instructions of my parents. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

It is our prayer that it will reveal to those who don’t know Jesus Christ, that there is a Creator and Maker of this universe, the only loving and powerful God who longs for a personal relationship with every human being. We pray that these daily readings will remind us all of the great hope and abundant joy in knowing Jesus Christ, through whom we have eternal life!
