Christ-Likeness Through Motherhood

I was very close to my mother. Bringing me up, she did not know the Lord. Yet there are many things she taught me, be it cooking, taking care of the house and children or how to behave and carry myself, which I still practice even today. Her thoughts and teachings are very influential in my life today, even though they are not really based on the Word of God. If she was so effective, then how much more powerful a godly mother can be, in raising her children with the wisdom and strength given by her Father in heaven?
The Bible does not state that every woman should be a mother. However, it does expect those whom the Lord blesses to be mothers, to take their responsibility seriously. Motherhood is a role entrusted to that woman by God. And God equips her to be the best mother to that particular child, by His Word and the Holy Spirit. When a mother takes the help of God to carry out her responsibility, with much care and love, she becomes more and more like Christ and, thus, is a model of a Godly mother for her family and others. Her children rise up and call her blessed! Her husband also, and he praises her (Proverbs 31:28). And the name of the Lord is glorified!
So mothers, spiritual or biological, be encouraged! God trusts you to be a mother and He equips you too. Press on and don’t give up. Be the mother God wants you to be and see your children become beautiful and powerful men and women of God!

Lord Jesus, thank You for my children. They are a gift from You. Help me to bring them up in Your ways. Amen.
