Money Matters: Devotions From Time of GraceSample
Thinking About Money God’s Way: Daily Bread
If you ever find work in a bakery, try to work in the retail end if you want normal hours. If you work as a baker, you are tending the ovens in the middle of the night so that there will be fresh product at 6:00 A.M.
Your God has promised to provide material support for you and for your family. He doesn’t drop it from the sky the way he used to send manna to the Israelites. But he is up all night baking your daily bread so that it will be ready to go in the morning. Daily bread means that God is not aloof but actively engaged in your life, lining up the day-to-day resources he sees that you need.
When Jesus taught us how to pray, he invited us to appeal for daily bread not to a CEO or dictator but to a Father. You can absolutely always trust in the kind and generous heart of the One who delights in calling you his child and has assumed responsibility for you.
“Humility and fear of the LORD bring wealth and honor and life” (Proverbs 22:4). “Lord, I kneel before you and declare my dependence on your providing. Lord, I trust your wisdom, your great strength, and your rock-steady love for me. Lord, I will wait for your daily bread, which I trust will arrive at just the right time. Thank you for all you do for me.”
