Being Generous: With and Without MoneySample

Being Generous: With and Without Money

DAY 2 OF 5

Who Owns Your Stuff?

It feels good to have stuff, right? All of us own things we enjoy, like our favorite clothes or go-to coffee mug. There’s also plenty of stuff we hope to own in the future, like plane tickets to a dream destination or keys to a new house. There’s nothing wrong with having stuff, but it’s helpful to remember who owns it. Psalm 24:1 NIV says:

The earth is the LORD’s and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it ...

So who owns our stuff? Not us. We’re caretakers of the resources we’ve been given for our short time on earth.

God wants us to enjoy life and thank Him for the things we get to enjoy. Because He provides for our needs, we don’t have to hold on to the stuff we have too tightly. After all, it’s not really ours, and we won’t take it with us into eternity.

So as we budget, save, and enjoy the stuff God’s given us, let’s switch our mindset from “this is mine” to “this is what I get to share”—because our God joyfully gave us everything we have. Now we get to follow His lead.

Pray: God, please help me to hold my possessions loosely. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Challenge: Consider how God owning what you have changes how you think about your stuff.
