Stand in Confidence: From Sinking in Insecurity to Rising in Your God-Given Identity

DAY 4 OF 5

Competency—Expand Your Capacity

Competency is the third component of confidence. In other words, we can’t be underdeveloped and under-equipped and expect to feel good about it. We need to be capable in whatever area we seek confidence in. Since spiritual confidence is the only form of confidence that affects all other forms, it’s vital that we establish spiritual competency. In order to do so, we must ask God to expand us. Our prayer should be, “LORD, create in me capacity.”

If we want more out of life, then we must make room for more. If we receive more but don’t have room for more, then the overflow becomes a burden, not a blessing. Think about it this way ...

First, God created the heavens and the earth.

Then He separated the sky from the water.

Then He put birds in the air and fish in the sea.

God didn’t create stars without first stretching a sky to hold them. He didn’t design fish without first expanding a sea to hold them. The capacity was created first with the belief and hope that good things would come. Then that space was filled.

Cycles of unhealed wounds and false narratives reduce our capacity. And with limited capacity, we stop believing, hoping, and trusting in a brighter future. God offers all of us abundant life, but that requires us to participate in our own healing. Psalm 34:18 tells us, “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.”

He cares about your heart's condition and watches over your soul's state. He longs for your joy and prays for your peace. God wants you to heal so you can make room for His abundant blessings.

God sent Jesus to die for our freedom. He doesn’t want us bound to our past, inner critic, fear, or wounds. If He were content with us living in depression, lust, and bitterness, He would never have sent Jesus to rescue us. The Scripture is clear that we have been set free from sin; however, we must shed the mindset of slavery and sin, even if that shedding comes little by little, season by season.

Addressing the enemy’s negative messages and revisiting the painful experiences that opened the door to them requires intentionality and bravery. You have the power to confront these messages, close the open doors, and find restoration.

Pray: Father, I invite You into this healing process. I ask You to guide this experience, shine Your light, and bring me true freedom as I partner with the Holy Spirit to restore my true story.

About this Plan

Stand in Confidence: From Sinking in Insecurity to Rising in Your God-Given Identity

Culture, church, and life have sold us narratives about who we’re supposed to be as women. We feel driven to people-please, downplay, and perform. Author and ministry leader Amanda Pittman explains how we can rewrite our damaging self-beliefs with the truth about our God-given identity by establishing God-shaped confidence. With new perspectives and focus, we will stand confidently upon the finished work of Jesus and live boldly in our callings.
