My Jesus by Anne Wilson

DAY 3 OF 5

If you are wounded or hurting today, the best advice I can give you is this: turn your heart toward God. Whatever you are feeling, He can handle it—all of it. The tears, screams, questions, or silent thoughts—He invites you to share all of it with Him and let Him tend to your heart. God is not scared of your emotions. He is a tender Shepherd.

My mother, father, sister, and I each turned to God in different ways and at different times. I strongly believe that submitting our heartache to Him was the only reason we made it through the loss of my brother, Jacob. We couldn’t do it on our own, though we sometimes tried. We found comfort and relief whenever we turned to God with our pain. It didn’t suddenly make everything all better or take away our feelings of loss. Not at all. But as we brought our broken hearts and overwhelming emotions to God, we received strength to keep going and peace amid the pain.

Worship was the primary way I turned my heart toward God. Many times, worship meant sitting at the piano and singing. Other times it looked like putting on a worship song, lying on my bed, and just breathing. Sometimes all I could do was listen as my Bible app read aloud verses from the Bible. That, too, is worship because worship is a posture of your heart—a turning toward God—and acknowledging who He really is. Whatever you are going through, I encourage you to bring your hurting heart to Jesus. He will give you rest.

Prayer

Lord, I am thankful I can come to You with all my feelings. Please heal my broken heart and help me find strength in You. Amen.
