Finding Faith in the StormSample
My heart's cry
"'Remember these things…I have made you, you are My servant…I will not forget you.'" (Isaiah 44:21, NIV)
I could put a period right there, because that really says it all! God has promised never to forget us. Hallelujah! But how often can we forget Him and what He so freely offers us?
Recently I was sitting in the waiting room at the doctor's office, and an older lady began to tell me about her life. At one point, she said, "You know, the women in our tennis club have known each other for 50 years! You go through a lot together in 50 years." She told me that many of her friends had suffered from cancer or other terrible illnesses. Some of them couldn't play tennis for years—but they were still always there for each other. Her words really touched me, and I began to consider that this woman and her friends had discovered something powerful, something we all desire: a sense of belonging! "We women know where we belong, no matter how we're doing," she said.
What does belonging mean? Belonging is the basic human need to feel like we're part of a group and find social support and validation through that connection. We all need to feel like we belong! But in this quest, this search to belong, where do we go first?
When I think about my own life, I'm so grateful that I have a deep sense of belonging in my family, but I also know that even this blessing doesn't fully satisfy my heart. Can you relate?
Even those closest to you, whether they're in a tennis club or part of your family, can't give you all of the answers, all the acceptance, and the love you so desperately need! The truth is that only your Creator can answer this heart cry. And do you know what His answer to you is? "You belong to Me."
When you say yes to Him, you belong in His family! It is the perfect place to belong, the place you'll find your true security. Your Heavenly Father says to you today, "'Remember these things…I have made you, you are My servant…I will not forget you.'" (Isaiah 44:21, NIV)
You are a miracle!
