Catechism: Living It OutSample

Catechism: Living It Out

DAY 2 OF 3

Just as we may have a physical resemblance to our human family, being part of God’s spiritual family means we should start to resemble him in the way we live and love others. It’s part of who we are created to be and part of who we are as his children.

Philippians 2:5-11 tells us that we should have the same attitude and mindset as Jesus. This means, like Jesus, we should be humble and obedient, always willing to share the love of God with others.

We can’t do this alone: Only the power of the Holy Spirit can transform every part of us to reflect this new identity. Over time, our thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors should start to look more and more like Jesus.

As we walk with Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit, we experience true freedom: We’re free to live as God’s valuable, loved children, made in his image to reflect his love to the world.

Read: 1 John 4:7-8; Philippians 2:5-11; Galatians 5:13

Consider: How is our behavior related to our beliefs? What does this say about their relationship with God if someone acts in unloving ways?

Reflect: As you read the Scriptures, reflect on some of the characteristics of Jesus that we should imitate. Which ones do you find the most challenging? Ask the Holy Spirit to transform you in those areas and look for opportunities to practice that new attitude or behavior.

About this Plan

Catechism: Living It Out

Have you ever asked yourself what it means to practically live out our God-given identity? In this 3-day Bible Plan, you will explore how becoming a new person in Christ isn’t a “one and done” transaction; it happens over time and through building a relationship with God. This 3-day Bible Plan is part 4 of 4 designed to go along with the Catechism 'Who Am I' small group series.
