Daily Bible Reading – September 2022: "God’s Renewing Word of Wisdom"Sample

September 24
Introduction
Goodness/righteousness versus wickedness/evil as well as wisdom versus foolishness are key themes, along with statements about the impact of words.
Scripture Reading
Proverbs 12:1-28
Today’s Key Verse: Proverbs 12:22
The LORD hates liars, but is pleased with those who keep their word.
Reflect
Several verses in today’s reading deal with choosing words carefully and telling the truth (verses 17, 18, 19, 22) over against telling lies and speaking in ways that cause harm (6, 13). Have you ever been hurt by the words of another? If so, what effect did those words have on you? Have you ever hurt someone by something you said? If so, what happened afterward? Verse18 speaks of the healing power of words. Have you ever been comforted or encouraged by someone’s words? If so, how did you respond? What good word can you offer to someone today?
Pray
Gracious God, your Son Jesus, taught that words that come out of our mouths based on evil thoughts cause us to be unclean in your sight. Such words stir up trouble and hurt others. Guard my lips, so I speak lovingly and truthfully with kind words that offer encouragement and hope. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Ecclesiastes 9:13-18: The value of wisdom is discussed.
