DAY 1 OF 3

You Chose Me…In Spite of My Past Failures

Didn't wanna be found, but I knew I was lost

None of us are perfect. We all have flaws, we have all failed at something. No one but Christ was born perfect, but no one is so broken that Christ cannot redeem.

Every saint has a past, and every sinner can have a future in Christ Jesus.

Sometimes, it's hard for us to accept being chosen by God because we cannot fathom why anyone would choose to love us. We cannot understand why anyone would choose us for anything. We doubt that we are worthy. This is because we are looking through a human lens. But, God sees us for who we truly are (1 Samuel 16:7).

This devotional plan will look at some of the people God chose to save, people He chose to use for His Glory. First, we'll look at someone God chose in spite of past failures.

God chose Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Born a Hebrew, Moses was adopted by Pharaoh's daughter after his mother set him in a basket on the Nile River to save him from being slaughtered under the orders of Pharaoh. When Moses got older, he visited the Hebrews and saw that they were being forced to work under extremely harsh conditions. Moses saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, so he killed the Egyptian and buried him. Soon, many people soon knew what he had done, so Moses fled to Midian.

After tending to flocks in Midian, one day, Moses saw a burning bush. God spoke to Moses through that burning bush and told Moses that he was chosen to lead God's people out of Egypt. Moses questioned his qualifications for such a task, and God responded that He would be with Moses. (Exodus 3:10-12)

If you know the rest of the story, after several attempts and plagues, Moses led God's people out of Egypt and across the Red Sea on dry land! This is the same Moses who killed the Egyptian. God used him, qualified him, and equipped him to carry out His purpose.

God can do the same for any of us. We just have to be willing to believe that God can choose and use us in spite of our past failures. God is a loving and forgiving God. While we will deal with the consequences of sinful actions, God removes our sins from us as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12).

If we push past our pasts and accept God's love and forgiveness, He can guide us on the path that will be pleasing to Him.

Father God,

Thank You for Your Kindness, Your Love, and Forgiveness. Thank You for looking at our hearts and our intentions. Lord, forgive us for our past failures. Forgive us for the times we've gone against Your Will and strayed from Your path. Lord, please help us to accept being chosen by You. Please help us not to let our pasts hinder us from being used for Your Glory.

In the Mighty Name of Jesus, Amen!
