OVERCOMING PRIDE

“‘God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.’ Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.” 1 PETER 5:5–6

RECITE GOD’S GOODNESS

Divine Majesty, who is like You, who sits enthroned on high and stoops down to give grace to the humble? In Your goodness, You shower the humble with Your favor.

EXPRESS YOUR NEEDINESS

Lord Jesus, help me acknowledge Your greatness and humble myself before You. Empty me of pride and vain conceit; kill any selfish ambition within me. Fill my soul with sincere love and admiration of You that I may be caught up in Your beauty and reflect the likeness of Christ as I bear Your image.

SEEK HIS STILLNESS

Ponder John the Baptist’s words about Jesus: “He must become greater; I must become less” (John 3:30). What would it look like for Jesus to become greater in your life? How would pursuing His greatness allow your soul to rest in His presence?

TRUST HIS FAITHFULNESS

In Your great love, Jesus, You humbled Yourself to death on the cross; Your humility led to my salvation. I give myself wholly to Your meek and humble Spirit. Guide me always by Your humility, and lead me in the joy of Your salvation that my life may bear much fruit for Your glory alone.
