[Life of David] How to Wage Our Own BattlesSample
His Word, My Direction
Not all battles take place in a physical field. Most take place in our minds and in our emotions. What is at stake is our faith, our testimony, and ultimately, our souls. But we have a God who loves us and has given us His Word to guide us through difficult moments.
In King David’s day, the Word of God was written in the law of Moses, the Torah. The people were to meditate and delight in God’s law. In Psalm 119, David wrote that God’s Word was his constant meditation.
Another way the Word of God came to the people in David’s time was through the prophets. The prophets were God’s channel to speak – mainly to kings – about God’s will for a person, a family, or the nation. The prophet Nathan was one of these channels from God for King David. Nathan would declare God’s will to David, and David would take it to heart and put it into action.
Whether it is received through meditating on God’s law or receiving a word through His prophets, the Word of God is like the food that sustains us. It gives us direction and purpose and reminds us that God is with us. When King David heeded God’s Word, he advanced, had victory in battle, and expanded his territory regardless of how difficult his circumstances were.
Just as King David did, we may see advancement, victory, and expansion of God’s kingdom by carefully applying God’s direction to our lives.
In the Bible, God has given us what some call promises—answers to what we may be facing. Are you fighting loneliness? The Bible says that we are loved, and that He is with us all the time. Are you combating sadness? God says that we can rejoice in His love. Are you battling illness? He says that He took our sicknesses and pains. There is a precise word for our need that we can believe to fight the battle taking place in our lives.
Ask the Lord to help you to remember His Word. Use it to wage your battles and secure the victory against your enemies.

About this Plan
Life is a constant battle. Right now, we are either in a battle, coming out of one, or about to get into one. King David had his share of battles, and God gave him the victory everywhere he went. What was his secret? Can we do the same? In this reading plan, Pastor Gregg Matte shows us through the life of King David the key principles to do just that.
