SMALL PRAYERS CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE

Jabez is often called the “Prodigy of Genealogy” or the Bible’s “Little Big Man.” After lines and lines of genealogy, the mini-testimonial of Jabez emerges as a lighthouse to the fact that a small prayer has the power to put our lives on a growth trajectory.

Here are some lessons from the small prayer of Jabez:

• The little whispers of prayer can turn your life around: There might be instances where a big prayer may not be possible. In those tough situations, just a simple whisper of prayer from our hearts can bring about a huge paradigm shift in our lives. The small pauses and tiny moans from the deepest recesses of our hearts have the power to transform the whole course of our lives. Jabez’s cry for a breakthrough was by no means eloquent. But his small sincere cry to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living was enough to unleash the riches of God’s glory.
• Small prayers can carry big visions: When Jabez prayed for his territory to be enlarged, he was in essence saying, “God, you have created me for more than this.” God always wants to widen our sphere of influence. He says: “Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back.” God wants us to look around ourselves and say, “I was born for more than this.” Don’t allow your mind to hold you back from all that God has for you.
• A small prayer can draw God’s mighty hand: The hand of God is the most essential element for success in our lives. We may have qualifications, beauty, and credentials to our benefit, but if the hand of the Lord is not with us, we will not be successful in this journey of life. The hand of the Lord gives us favor and influence as we journey along in life. Jabez recognized this and requested for the hand of the Lord to be with him.

The Bible says, “And God granted Jabez all that he requested of him.”

The story that started on a tragic note came to a flourishing finish, thanks to the small prayer that interjected the course of Jabez’s life. His prayer shines as an illustration of God welcoming the outrageous visions, dreams, and wishes that come from the small whispers of prayer.
