How to Survive the WaitSample

How to Survive the Wait

DAY 4 OF 5

Key 3: PLANT

The shade we rest under today was probably not produced by us. Someone else put a seed in the ground long before we entered the picture. This is so exciting! It means we can plant seeds for both our present and our future.

The third key to surviving the wait is to plant. This seems counterintuitive, especially when nothing seems to be happening. Why should we sow seeds while we wait for God to show up?

First, planting during a time of waiting is an act of faith. It shows God that we trust him to do his will in his timing.

Also, the Bible says it is more blessed to give than receive (Acts 20:35). When we start giving away the things we need, somehow, we are blessed by the act of giving.

Finally, seed-planting is legacy-building. If we want to reap a harvest eventually, we must plant the seeds. If future generations will reap anything, it is up to us to plant seeds for them.

God’s math is multiplication.

It says in 2 Corinthians 9:10 Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. We harvest more than we sow because multiplication is God’s principle of seed-planting. One apple seed contains a tree that can grow hundreds of apples with thousands of seeds. We don’t get an equal return when we plant one seed--we get more than we planted.

To help us survive and then eventually thrive in the wait, we can start planting seeds: time, money, knowledge, giftings. Find fertile soil and plant those seeds in the delay.

Every seed we plant comes back as more. It is time well spent in the wait when we become seed planters for God.

Action: What seed can you plant today? Ask God to show you what and where to plant if you don't know. Then start planting!

Prayer: God of the seed and the harvest, thank you for this opportunity to plant while I wait. Please show me what you would have me plant today and where the fertile soil is. Thank you that you make the seeds I sow grow into unimaginable harvests when I trust you with the growing process. Thank you for letting me be part of your Kingdom-building by seed-planting! In Jesus’ name, amen.

About this Plan

How to Survive the Wait

When you find yourself in the wait, don't despair! Though sometimes it is hard to understand God's timing, he always has a purpose for the delay. This five-day plan will encourage you as you work on the four keys to surviving your season of waiting. With God's help, when we praise, prepare, plant, and persist, the wait goes from obstacle to opportunity.
