Today Is Going to Be Another Good DaySample
Today is going to be a good day because even though we will all face trials; we are never alone in those struggles because God promises to remember us when we are in trouble.
Nothing can separate us from the love of God, although the enemy would love to convince us in our pain and suffering that God has forgotten us or removed his love from us. The truth remains that his perfect love never ends.
In those times of trouble, we must make the conscious decision to draw closer to God and turn our back on the enemy’s lies. Scripture reminds us to resist the devil, and then he will leave. Our job is to be obedient and do our part, then trust God to fulfill his promises.
During the time in my life when my career as a doctor was taking off and reaping the rewards of diligent seeds sown, my husband’s company when through a “reduction in force,” necessitating his layoff and ultimately unemployment.
I did what my dad modeled to me as a child: I took on more responsibility, jumped in, and did more to take up the slack for what my husband wasn’t able to do at the time. I thought it was a good thing…until it wasn’t.
Gradually I began working over 100 hours a week. I worked at the private practice until midnight, ran home for a shower and a quick nap, and was back at the office by 3:00 am, ready to repeat this pattern yet another day. Over months and years at this unsustainable pace, my health, my mental health, and my friendships took a devastating hit.
The Lord graciously showed me that I had taken on the burden of being the provider for our family that he never intended for me to carry… God desired to be our provider.
He remembered me in my trouble and helped me understand that he wasn’t going to fight me for control of my life or concerns. He lovingly helped me understand that if I continued to work such unsustainable hours, he wouldn’t love me any more than he already did, and if I never worked again, he wouldn’t love me any less. His love isn’t dependent on what we do, but on who he is.
He loves us perfectly in our trouble and suffering, and there is nothing we can do to exhaust his love. But we can experience more of his love by drawing close to him.
How will you draw close to God in your suffering?
Father, thank you that we are on the top of your mind, because of your never-ending love for us, especially during times of trial and trouble. Help us to depend on you to do what we can’t. Show us your love in new and never before experienced ways. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
