How Do You Find the Truth?

DAY 7 OF 7

The Truth will Make You Free

When Martin Luther King Jr., gave his iconic “I have a dream speech,” he was speaking about it.

When Mahatma Ghandi staged peaceful protests to overcome the oppression of British colonialism and gain Indian independence, he was demonstrating about it.

When Nelson Mandela went to prison for twenty seven years because of his anti-apartheid stance, he was standing up for it.

And when Sir Winston Churchill gave his rallying, “We shall fight them on the beaches,” speech, he was showing the grit and determination needed to win it.

What fired such passion in these great men?

Freedom!

Of all the great aspirations of this world, freedom sits at the top of the list. Freedom allows people to choose their path and to seek the life they want without fear of oppression.

The path to true freedom comes through a knowledge of the truth. Lies are the currency of oppression, but truth is the source of freedom.

As Christians we know that freedom comes from Christ Jesus, as scripture says,

"If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." (John 8:31-32)

By following the words of Jesus closely you will find the path to freedom.

His freedom is not like the freedoms of this world either. He offers us freedom from sin, freedom from law, and the freedom to do what is good right and true. His freedom takes away fear and condemnation when we allow His freedom to have full effect in our lives.

Jesus sets us free so that we can truly be free, as the scripture tells us,

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand fast therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1)

And finally, when we find the true freedom that exists in Jesus Christ through the knowledge of the truth, we must stand fast and not submit again to slavery. Let us learn the lessons of Churchill, Ghandi, Mandela, and Martin Luther King Jr., who were all truth seekers and found freedom in the truth.
