Find Peace in an Anxious WorldSample
When You’re Afraid to Go to Sleep
Do you remember the song “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”?
Sometimes we can sing along to a song like this, just like we do to our favorite song from a movie, but we don’t pay attention to what the song means. Think about the last time you held an egg in your hand. I bet you were pretty careful with it, making sure it didn’t break until you were ready for it to. What about a new baby? Think about how gentle we have to be with those cute, squishy humans! We hold them as carefully as we can, making sure they feel safe and protected.
God holds the world with love, and we are safe in His hands.
When we’re scared or hurting or sad or lonely, we can turn to Him. He is Almighty God, and as Psalm 121 tells us, He is always working in the world. We don’t have to stay awake to make sure everything will be okay. That’s in God’s hands, and He wants us to rest.
So the next time someone you love gives you a hug, think about God hugging you too. His love for you is infinitely bigger than what you can imagine, and He’s holding you closely to Himself no matter what else is going on around you.
Do you know what happens so often when we’re held for a while by someone we love? We fall asleep.
God is still God while you are sleeping, and you are safe in His hands.
Rest in that.
Prayer
God, will You remind me that I’m safe with You? I am so thankful that I don’t have to be scared of nighttime. I love You!
