If Only You Knew: An Easter DevotionalSample
It is Resurrection Sunday and we are overjoyed all over again. We stand in remembrance of all the ways our Saviour completed the redemptive work He came into the world to accomplish. With His glorious resurrection, He demonstrated the power of God that brings salvation. And we rejoice that our Lord is alive! (Revelation 1:18)
Today, we are beckoned to dwell in the consciousness of our oneness with Him. That because we are in Christ, when He was crucified, we were crucified with Him. When He resurrected, we resurrected with Him. When He won the victory over death and all the powers and principalities of darkness, we overcame too. When He ascended to the Father and was coronated and given the Name that is above every other name: Lord and King with all power and authority in heaven and earth – we ascended with Him too (Ephesians 2:6).
Perhaps to begin to understand the ways that Christ’s resurrection applies to our redemption, it is worth looking back at all that we lost through the fall of man in the beginning. Through Adam and Eve’s disobedience, sin and death entered the world and consequently, we lost communion with God.
Until Jesus came into the world. He came as the demonstration of the Father’s great love and fulfilled His plan to redeem us from sin and death and reconcile us back to Himself through the substitutionary atonement of Jesus. Everything that Christ went through was significant for our salvation. He became sin, so that in Him we would become the righteousness of God. His body was broken so that ours would be made whole. He accepted the crown of thorns so that He would receive the crown of victory for us.
God reconciled us to Himself through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Now, because we are in Christ, we are called sons and daughters of God. Jesus is no longer the only begotten but now He is the firstborn of we, the begotten. We are joint-heirs with Him. We sit with Him in heavenly places. We are the beloved of the Father. We are filled with the Holy Spirit. And Jesus has given us His Name wherein lies our restored authority over evil and dominion over the world.
It is on the strength of this consciousness, that we are sent to go and tell the world of this good news too. That salvation is for all who believe. That our Lord Jesus reigns, today and forever. He is seated at the right hand of the Father (Hebrews 1:3). He is our Great High Priest, making intercession for us. So that we can all come into the presence of the Father in confidence and joy (Hebrews 4: 14-16).
