Fasting and Prayer: 21-Day Challenge

DAY 9 OF 21

FOLLOW ALONG WITH OUR AUDIO VERSION OF TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL

A LIFE OF SURRENDER

READ

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”—Romans 8:1 (NIV)

REFLECT

Romans 8:1 has been called by many the most beautiful verse in the Bible because of what it declares for the believer: We don’t have to live in shame! Shame will drive us to isolation and convince us that God’s forgiveness and grace cannot be real. This Scripture tells us the opposite! 1 John reminds us that the Father lavished His great love on us through Christ. Today, reflect on the things you feel guilt and shame about; the areas of condemnation you carry. Bring those to Jesus! Pray and ask the Lord to help you walk in the freedom He has already secured for you.

PRAY

Jesus, it doesn’t take much for me to be reminded of all my sins and struggles. But today, I bring to You all my guilt and shame, all my worry and doubt, and every accusatory thought. I lay them down at Your feet, knowing Your kindness leads to repentance. Help me walk in surrender and live in light of this Scripture. Help me also to invite others into my struggles so we can hold each other up and point each other to You! I know that through You, I’m free of shame, and I ask You to help me walk in that freedom with confidence and joy. Amen.

FOR THE FAMILY

DISCUSS

  1. What does the word condemnation (disapproval and punishment) mean?
  2. How does it make you feel knowing Jesus doesn’t disapprove of you?

PRAY

Jesus, thank You for reminding me that You’re kind and patient. Even though I always mess up, You still stick with me. Please help me come to You every day for strength, grace, and love. Help me to share this good news with other people, too. Amen.
