Five Ways to Grow Your Faith Sample
Day One: Seek Faith-full Role Models
When Paul wrote to Timothy, his son in the faith, he reminded the young man of the faith he had observed in Timothy’s grandmother, Lois, and mother, Eunice (2 Timothy 1:5). No doubt spending time in these godly women’s company had a strong impact on Timothy’s life and faith.
Timothy found another role model in Paul. The apostle commended him for following his “teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience” and many other qualities. Timothy must have watched, listened, and learned about trusting God from his spiritual father.
Whose faith do you admire? Who do you know who isn’t rattled for long by adverse circumstances, but remains steadfast in trusting God? Spending time with faith-full believers will boost your own ability to trust God in a variety of situations.
Conversely, be aware of people and media outlets that deflate your trust in God. Choose not to follow others into fear, pessimism, complaining, or panic.
By the way, believers who are no longer with us, such as Amy Carmichael and Andrew Murray, can also be great role models who challenge us to greater faith. Spend time with them by reading their biographies and writings.
Wrapping Up: Which Scripture in this day’s reading most speaks to your heart? Write it out and take a few more minutes to reflect on and write about how it applies to your life today.
