[Life of David] From Shepherd to King Sample

[Life of David] From Shepherd to King

DAY 3 OF 5

Follow God’s plan

All of us want to be successful. From an early age, we learn that becoming the winner is great, not coming in second place or third. The winner has everyone’s attention and gets the prize. So, we go through life trying to be the best and win all the time. We are called to be successful in everything we do, and success is a blessing from God. But the greatest blessing of all, and what we could call true success, is to be dependable in doing God’s will.

In the Bible, we find the story of David. He was a shepherd, and he never imagined himself becoming one of the greatest kings of Israel. But because of his obedient heart, God wanted to lift him to replace King Saul, who didn’t obey God’s words or directions. God tested Saul on many occasions to see whether he would follow God’s orders or his own heart. In the beginning, Saul tried his best to do as God instructed him, until the day when his kingdom was confirmed; then, he started to add or subtract here and there to God’s plans. God ended up rejecting King Saul due to his continuous rebelliousness. Saul kept the position of the king until he died, but led a miserable life.

For some people, the signs of success are having a full bank account, walls loaded with trophies at home, or being recognized around the world. All these awards are temporary. Some of them will lose their value. Someone new and smarter may arrive, or your achievements may not be enough for you. The key to real success before God is to have His interests at heart and follow His plans.

When we, as leaders, follow God’s plans, we obtain success in His eyes. That kind of success fills our hearts with satisfaction and joy, with no accompanying sadness. That kind of success has God’s support. One of our main tasks as leaders is to seek the Lord and ask Him for His plans for us. Sometimes His plans may be too high for us, a plan that we had never imagined; but if we follow God’s path, we will see His hand over us and His help to win each battle.

About this Plan

[Life of David] From Shepherd to King

Many of us feel sometimes like the whole world is against us. But are things really as we see them? David went on a journey from being a shepherd boy to being anointed, king. Along the way God prepared him to be the great leader he was intended to be. Let’s position ourselves in a place of surrender, keep our eyes on the Lord and follow his lead too!
